iTunes Setup Guide

A current version of the CMS Lap Timer Pro app and a GPS utility app are pre-installed free of charge on the Turnkey System.

To update the pre-installed apps or to use the iPod Touch as a music player and for other apps, the iPod Touch must be transferred to a private iTunes account, using the steps below.

Save Data and Videos

IMPORTANT: The process of transferring the iPod Touch to a private iTunes Account erases the contents of the device, specifically any data and videos. Therefore, the first step is to copy the data and video to a computer as follows:

Install iTunes from Apple.

Mac OS

  1. Connect the iPod Touch to the Mac using the supplied Apple USB cable
  2. Open the Preview app on the Mac
  3. From the File menu, select "Import from Camera" and then select the iPod Touch
  4. Import all videos and photos to the Mac
  5. From the iPod Touch, open the CMS Lap Timer Pro app
  6. Tap on the Runs tab
  7. Tap on the Actions icon (upper left) and select "Export to iTunes"
  8. From the Mac, open iTunes
  9. Use iTunes File Sharing to copy the run data files to the Mac

 

Windows

  1. Connect the iPod Touch to the PC using the supplied Apple USB cable
  2. On the PC, select "Computer" from the "Windows" start button (far left on the task bar)
  3. The iPod Touch appears as "Apple iPod", open it and copy the DCIM folder to the PC
  4. From the iPod Touch, open the CMS Lap Timer Pro app
  5. Tap on the Runs tab
  6. Tap on the Actions icon (upper left) and select "Export to iTunes"
  7. From the Mac, open iTunes
  8. Use iTunes File Sharing to copy the run data files to the Mac

 

Convert iPod Touch to Personal iTunes Account

iTunes Setup

  1. Disconnect the iPod Touch from the computer
  2. On your computer, open iTunes
  3. Select "iTunes Store" from the left column
  4. Enter "CMS Lap Timer Pro" in the "Search Store" field in the upper right
  5. Purchase the "CMS Lap Timer Pro" app (create an Apple ID if you don't already have one)
  6. Enter "Bad Elf GPS" in the search field if you have the Bad Elf GPS module, or "Dual Bluetooth" if you have the Dual GPS module
  7. Click on the "Free" button to download the app

 

iPod Touch Setup

  1. On the iPod Touch, open the Settings app
  2. Select "General"
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select "Reset"
  4. Select "Erase All Conent and Settings"
  5. When the iPod Touch restarts, turn it on and go through the setup process and specify the following when asked:
    1. Enable Location Services
    2. Setup Up as New iPod Touch
    3. Automatically Send Diagnostics and Usage
  6. Connect the iPod Touch to your computer
  7. On the computer, specify "Set up as a new iPod" when iTunes shows the "Set Up Your iPod" screen
  8. iTunes will sync the iPod Touch and install the apps
  9. If you see a popup window regarding authorisation problems, select "Authorize this Computer" from the "Store" menu and sign in using your Apple ID, then select the apps again in the "Apps" tab and sync again
  10. On the iPod Touch, open the "CMS Lap Timer Pro" app
  11. Tap on "Settings" tab (or "..." and then "Settings")
  12. Enter you name, car name, car weight and specify Video on/off

 

You can now use the iPod Touch as a music player, etc, and all future app updates are free (iTunes on the computer or the Apps app on the iPod Touch notify you when updates are available)
